On Tuesday mornings the boys have an early morning gym class that meets before regular classes start. Daniel was all excited this morning because he hoped to be able to play with the Wii this week.
Now wait just a cotton pickin' minute!!!! I'll reluctantly accept computer-use in second grade, even glorified blackboards marketed under the SmartBoard tradename if if I have to, but no way should we be using Wiis in gym class. Gyms are like a sacred refuge where real balls should fly and real goals should be defended, even if only by daydreaming children.
Could it be that my kids are standing in front of a video screen this morning waving a computer wand to coax an imaginary basketball into an imaginary net, while a real basketball hoop stares down at them with abandoned despair?
Have we become so sanitized that we don't want to touch the real world anymore?
