The Boy and the Broken Boat

Daniel was home from school today with an ear infection. I stapled together a blank "book" for him and provided a title, The Boy and the Broken Boat. This is what he came up with; each sentence taking up its own page. (Please note I edited for spelling.)

The Boy and the Broken Boat
by Daniel

Once upon a time, there was a boy.
The boy wanted a boat.
So he got one.
Then he launched the boat.
Until a thunderstorm came.

Then a pirate ship appeared.
The pirate ship sank the boat.
The boy was safe because he found land.

The end.

I was very impressed with this story for several literary reasons. He introduced his protagonist and provided jeopardy (twice, in fact). But what impressed me most was the last sentence. He had the presence of mind to let us know the boy was OK and why.
